The much-anticipated second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel launches on the streaming platform this week, and audience theories has been intense.
The first season presents a diverse group of personalities residing in Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other accompanied by songs about their clashes, and establishes heated competitions and emotional bonds that drive audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 vary widely, but certain threads recur frequently: Could a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the binding agreement affecting Alastor the Radio Demon? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Naturally, I don't make the show with fan service as the main goal," the showrunner commented earlier this year. "But I feel like me being a fan of my own show implies there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to occur, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator reveals her big-picture plan is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by the production companies, which produce the series.
That could imply fans have to be patient for some of the major resolutions — but they may be surprised at how fast the new season moves, and how much of what they're waiting for happens this season.
"I feel like people are going to be highly satisfied," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we get some really amazing disclosures, some fascinating backstories, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear much more singing from the previously silent cast members."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about season 2 — particularly in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've come across a couple people make a bingo card about season 2," she says. "Naturally I can't post it, but I've actually done some of them, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 premieres on Prime Video on October 29.
